What are Chelsea Boots?
Chelsea boots are timeless boots that can be used in a variety of ways depending on the combination and are very versatile in their style. They are about ankle-high, the toe is classically rounded and the cut is rather narrow. The block heel is usually rather flat. Nowadays, however, a chunky platform heel is also fashionable. There is a pull tab at the back of the shaft and rubber inserts to the right and left of the ankle. These details not only create the classic Chelsea boot look, they also make it easy to slip into the boots.
Chelsea boots are available in suede and smooth leather. They are also often worn in waterproof materials as rubber boots. For cooler temperatures, they are also available with a thick inner lining. Unlined Chelsea boots are suitable for all seasons. Your feet do not sweat. However, with thick socks they can become a stylish winter accessory that keeps your feet wonderfully warm.
Chelsea boots are worn by both women and men these days. They were originally worn by men for hunting. They were first made in the 1830s by a shoemaker for Queen Victoria of England. The rubber inserts on the side of the boots were considered a revolutionary solution because they made it easier to put them on and take them off.
The name Chelsea Boots only came into being in the 1950s. At that time, a group of young artists lived in the Chelsea district of London. They wore the popular boots and thus coined the look known today as Brit Chic.
The shoe model became particularly popular after the Beatles wore a modified version of it in the sixties. The so-called Beatle Boots looked very similar to the Chelsea Boots, but had a slightly higher heel.
Chelsea Boots Outfits – Do’s and Don’ts
Don’ts
Wide trousers
Trouser cuts that are very wide at the calves take away from the boot’s impact. Under flared trousers you hide the beautiful boots and they can’t really be shown off to their best advantage.
Evening wear
Even though Chelsea boots can be combined in many different ways, they are less suitable for elegant evening wear. Elegant pumps are a better match
Long skirts
Similar to wide trousers, Chelsea boots don’t work properly with maxi skirts. They hide under the skirt and barely make an appearance.
Do’s
Skinny jeans
Skinny jeans and Chelsea boots are made for each other. You can casually tuck the skinny legs into the leg of the shoe. To make your outfit even more casual, you can also roll up the jeans slightly.
7/8 length
Skirts and trousers in 7/8 length are ideal so that your Chelsea boots are directly visible. The slightly peeking skin immediately draws the eye to the cool boots. You can go for trousers as well as girly skirts and dresses. This makes for an exciting style break. Tip: Longer trousers can also be rolled up for a cool 7/8 look.
Checked fabric trousers
To create classic Brit chic, you can combine a pair of checked fabric trousers with your Chelsea boots. This looks cool and stylish.
Cuffs and socks
A popular accessory, especially for the colder seasons: cuffs and thick socks. You can casually let thick woollen socks and cuffs peep out of your Chelsea boots. Skinny jeans, which you can tuck into the socks or cuffs, look particularly good with them. This keeps your calves warm and looks stylish.
Skirts
Chelsea boots also look great with skirts. The important thing is to pay attention to the length. The longer the skirt, the higher the heel of your boots should be, otherwise the look will quickly look compressed.
