What are Chelsea Boots?
Chelsea boots are timeless boots that are versatile and have a very versatile style, depending on the combination. They are about ankle high, the toe is classically rounded and the cut is rather narrow. The block heel is usually rather flat. However, nowadays a chunky platform heel is also in fashion. There is a pull tab at the back of the shaft and rubber inserts to the right and left of the ankle. These details not only provide the classic Chelsea boot look, but also make it easier to slip into the boots.
Chelsea boots come in suede and smooth leather. They are also often worn in waterproof materials as rubber boots. For cooler temperatures, they also come with a thick lining. Unlined Chelsea boots are suitable for all seasons. Your feet will not sweat. However, with thick socks, they can become a fashionable winter accessory that will keep your feet wonderfully warm.
Chelsea boots are now worn by both women and men. Originally, they were worn by men while hunting. They were first made in the 1830s by a shoemaker for Queen Victoria of England. The rubber inserts on the side of the boots were considered revolutionary because they made the boots easier to put on and take off.
The name Chelsea Boots did not appear until the 1950s. At that time, a group of young artists lived in the Chelsea district of London. They wore the popular boots and thus coined the look that is known today as Brit Chic.
The shoe model became especially popular after the Beatles wore a modified version of it in the sixties. The so-called Beatle Boots looked very similar to Chelsea Boots, but had a slightly higher heel.
Chelsea Boots Outfits – Do’s and Don’ts
Don’ts
Wide pants
Pants that are very wide at the calves take away from the boot. Under wide pants, you hide the beautiful boots and they can’t really show off.
Evening wardrobe
.
Even though Chelsea boots can be combined in many ways, they are less suitable for an elegant evening wardrobe. Elegant pumps are a better match
Long skirts
.
Similar to wide pants, Chelsea boots do not go well with maxi skirts. They hide under the skirt and hardly show to advantage.
Do’s
Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans and Chelsea boots are made for each other. You can casually tuck the skinny jeans into the leg of the boot. To make your outfit even more casual, you can also roll the jeans up slightly.
7/8 length
Skirts and pants in 7/8 length are ideal for your Chelsea boots to be directly visible. The slightly protruding skin immediately draws the eye to the cool boots. You can go for pants as well as girly skirts and dresses. This makes for an exciting style break. Tip: Longer pants can also be rolled up for a cool 7/8 look.
Checked fabric trousers
.
For a classic Brit-chic look, you can pair a pair of plaid fabric pants with your Chelsea boots. This will look cool and stylish.
Cuffs and socks
.
A popular accessory, especially for the colder seasons: Cuffs and thick socks. You can have thick wool socks and cuffs peeking out casually from your Chelsea boots. Skinny jeans that you can tuck into the socks or cuffs look especially good with these. It will keep your calves warm and look stylish.
Skirts
.
Chelsea boots also look great with skirts. The important thing is that you pay attention to the length. The longer the skirt, the higher the heel of your boots should be, otherwise the look will quickly look compressed.
